We are proud to announce the release of our first official single!

Sisters Aisling and Lauren McGlynn feature as soloists on our début track. Systir, an Icelandic word, comprises of singers drawn together from wildly different musical backgrounds. Besides the McGlynn sisters, Systir includes the voices of Caitríona Sherlock, Sara Weeda, Sigrid Algesten, Sara DiBella, Sorcha Fenlon, Cian O’Donnell and Lorna Breen.

Systir is a new kind of vocal group, developing the ideas that were originated from the beautiful female voices that have given ANÚNA such a lasting internaional reputation. ANÚNA is best-known for its female voices, despite one of the male singers, Andrew Hozier, becoming a household name throughout the world. ” says Aisling.

According to Lauren, their influences range from Japanese anime soundtracks, through The Doors to Pentangle and Bjork. “We are trying to find our own voices by combining all of our influences together to create something unique to us, something that epitomises the idea of Systir – mother, sister, friend, companion. A myriad of human experiences to explore. I can’t think of another group that has the combination of different musical genres coming together in one space.”

Individually the singers specialise in a multitude of forms including singing on video game soundtracks, specialising in opera, musical theatre and sean nós between them.
