SYSTIR (Icelandic for “sister”) have grown from the legendary ANÚNA, creating a new and eclectic musical voice that explores the myriad shades and hues of the female voice. The group appear on stage with between 5 and 7 performers, using imaginative staging, lighting and movement to enhance their performances. In a short time Systir have become one of the most sought after vocal ensembles to come out of Ireland since ANÚNA.

Members are Caitríona Sherlock, sisters Aisling & Lauren McGlynn, Lorna Breen, Sara Weeda, Sara Di Bella, Sorcha Fenlon and Sigrid Algesten. The instrumental mainstay of the group, who also sings, is Donegal man Cian O’Donnell. The Artistic director of Systir is Irish composer Michael McGlynn.

Although Systir are connected to the natural world, reflected in the many beautiful songs that form part of their programme, their stories are contemporary. They combine modern vocal and instrumental techniques with ancient vocal performance practices as part of their unique ethereal ambience. Their music ranges from original songs, through to arrangements of music by Norwegian singer/songwriter Aurora to the atmospheric songs from the Game of Thrones including the classic “Jenny of Oldstones”.

Systir are motivated by a desire to showcase the natural female voice, Systir strive to highlight the individuality of the singers and their ability to stand out yet meld together seamlessly with each singer’s personality adding a different colour.
